Hi all, Well things are starting to take off now; we are releasing the album next month. I am very excited and interested to hear what you all think.
I went to Japan last week to promote 'Pictures' and as always it was out of this world. I always find Japanese culture so fascinating; it’s a place where very old traditions and cultures meet the future. I have also become obsessed with edaname beans, and on one night I impressed the record company by getting through seven portions of them!
I am in Paris today doing Taratata TV show which is the show where I met Camille the French singer / songwriter; check her out if you haven’t already. There are always really great acts on this show. It will be interesting to see who I come across today, but one of the things I'm doing on the show is a version of 'I Shot The Sherriff' as a duet with the Nigerian artist Asa, which is a coincidence as she is signing to Dramatico for the UK.
When we arrived yesterday there were all these men in kilts, they were here for the big rugby match, so Paris is going through a Scottish invasion at the moment! Take care,

Hi, I have just come back from Georgia; I was there for a few days to see my relatives. I can’t believe how much the country has changed, in many ways for the better. There is a new airport, lots of new shops and the roads have got fewer holes in them! It looks like it’s heading for the lovely road of globalisation. I’m leaving later this week to go to Prague to shoot the video for the first single, and then I am pretty much out of the country until September, it's all getting very exciting though with the new album and I am in the frame of mind of having no idea of how people are going to react to it, I am very curious to see what everyone thinks...K x

Still touring, I've been to Nice and Germany. The weather was so stunning in Nice that I had to go scuba diving on my day off, which was brilliant. I've heard that the Med Sea isn’t great for seeing much fish but I was really pleased. I got to see barracuda, an octopus, groupers, starfish and lots of other divers!! I've got the last gig tonight for this leg of the tour before I go back to London, and it’s gone really quickly. I can’t wait to get home though to get the new Harry Potter book and to watch the film! !Take Care, Katie

It’s nice to be out on the road again, we've got a great new tour bus and everyone is pleased to be performing on stage again. We might do some new songs from the third album because we have finally finished it!! We are at that stage where we are trying to decide what the first single and album title will be. July 3 2007 Katie in Radio Times cover!
Katie Melua is one of a selection of Live Earth artists featured on special editions of this week's UK Radio Times magazine. She is interviewed about the event inside, here's an excerpt:
How important is Live Earth to you? “I really don’t want it to be about playing some gig; it’s mainly about what happens after. I love how musicians have the power to influence so many, not only our generation but the next generation as well, who’ll continue looking after the planet.”
Written any “green” songs recently? “The thing is, I don’t want to sound like a preacher. But I might be inspired to write something that’s more influenced by the love of nature, like about a forest or the sea. What I find frustrating is how the campaign [against global warming] is motivated by fear; that the world’s going to end if we don’t act, whereas I think we should be acting on our appreciation of this incredible planet.”

July 3 2007 ‘Thank you stars’ in Smart Car TV Ad
'Thankyou Stars' from the 'Piece By Piece' album is being used on a Smart Cars TV advertisement. You can see the ad here. DaimlerChrysler with Smart is the only car manufacturer worldwide to be an official partner of the Live Earth concerts. The new Smart 'fourtwo' diesel model has the lowest CO2 emissions worldwide and only consumes three litres of fuel per 100 kilometres.
July 2 2007 - Katie Joins Hearing Loss Warning Campaign
Katie Melua is supporting The Royal National Institute for the Deaf's 'Don't Lose the Music' campaign, which is warning that loud music in pubs and clubs is leading to a hearing loss "time bomb". The RNID found that the hearing of about 70% of people who visited nightclubs was affected. The study also found loud music damaged the ears of nearly 50% of pub goers. Read the whole story here.

June 18 2007 - Katie Melua signs her 10 foot Gibson Les Paul for Gibson Guitartown
Katie Melua took time out to sign her 10 foot Gibson Les Paul replica guitar for Gibson Guitartown London. The guitar titled “Guitar Man” was hand painted by community visual artist Alex Machin (pictured) who also joined Katie to sign the guitar.
Katie Melua said “I love the design of my guitar and hope that it will raise a lot of money for The Princes Trust, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and Teenage Cancer Trust.”
The 10 foot fiber glass free standing guitar will form part of the Gibson Guitartown London charity campaign and be displayed publicly at More London by Tower Bridge, London SE1 from June 25th for ten weeks. Following the display, Katie Melua’s signed Les Paul guitar will be auctioned off to raise money for The Prince’s Trust, Teenage Cancer Trust and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy at an event in October.
June 8 2007 - Recording Update
The recording of Katie’s forthcoming third album continues apace…Brass sections have been recorded at Dramatico’s studios and this week saw the recording entourage travel to Dublin where The Irish Film Orchestra (used on both previous albums) added strings to six tracks. Hi, Last week I went to the Live Earth press conferences, as I’ve said before, I’m really excited to be taking part. It’s frustrating sometimes though that so many people have such pessimistic viewpoints about doing charity concerts, and especially this one about global warming, as I can't believe there are still people arguing that global warming isn’t from human abuse to the planet! Hey, In the studio all last week, Ray Cooper, the legendary percussion player, came into the studio on Saturday and recorded all sorts of rhythmic instruments on most of the tracks we've got so far. I'm very excited to be taking part in Live Earth which is a number of concerts that are taking place around the world on the 7th of July, to highlight the effect of Global warming on the planet. Ever since I watched the Al Gore film 'An Inconvenient Truth' I’ve felt that the issue of global warming is ridiculously important, especially the fact that there are no scientists who don't believe that global warming is a result of human action and that if we don't do something about it fast then we might not have a planet to live on anymore - and let's face it if we haven't got a planet, then we're pretty screwed! May 10 2007 - Nancy Drew Soundtrack
Katie Melua has contributed a cover of Robert Palmer's 'Looking For Clues' to the soundtrack to the forthcoming Nancy Drew movie. You can hear the song on the soundtrack's official MySpace page, which you can access by clicking here.

April 27 2007 - Placido Domingo Concert Cancelled
Placido Domingo has unfortunately been forced to cancel his May 2nd concert at Manchester's M.E.N. Arena, which was due to feature a special guest appearance by Katie Melua. The venue is contacting ticket holders directly regarding the tickets, they are hoping that it will be able to be rescheduled. They will give us more news when they get it.

Announcing the World premiere of two award-winning artists together on stage for what promises to be a magical night of music - Katie Melua joins world-famous tenor Plácido Domingo at the M.E.N Arena on Wednesday 2 May 2007. Katie, who wowed M.E.N Arena audiences in January 2006, joins the Spanish tenor on stage at his only UK show of 2007 for a very special guest appearance. Katie will perform three of her best-known songs and duet with the maestro in this unique collaboration of classical and modern music.

April 4 2007 - Miss Potter DVD
Miss Potter, starring Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor (and of course featuring the song 'When You Taught Me How To Dance' by Katie Melua) is released on DVD on 23rd April. As well as the movie itself, the DVD also contains the theatrical trailer, a 30 minute 'Making Of'documentary and the music video for 'When You Taught Me How To Dance', which is unavailable elsewhere. Hi all, sorry for the gap between my last blog and this one. It’s been a manic couple of weeks. I went to Germany last weekend to the Echo Awards, to sing LITSWD ; ) and was nominated so had to practice my best disappointed but happy for the winner-face for if I didn't get it and my surprised and happy face, if I did. He he. I sang LITSWD towards the start of the show and then I sat down in the audience to watch the rest and nervously wait for my nomination. Read the whole blog here.

Hi, Well it’s been an interesting week, been writing quite a bit and I feel like I've finally got a hand on co-writing. I don't know why but I've always regarded songwriting as a very personal thing and difficult to let another writer in and play with your baby when its still being developed (I know the baby analogy is naff but it’s the only way I can describe it), but now I feel like I've let go of that insecurity and am beginning to trust that two songwriters can just as easily come up with great songs. Katie Melua: Concert Under The Sea - The Documentary Film was shot in and off the coast of Norway, and tells the story of Katie setting the Guinness World Record for the deepest underwater concert ever performed, 303 metres below the sea. Invited by Statoil, the gas drilling company, to celebrate their 10th anniversary on the biggest man-made structure ever moved on Earth, Katie (after checking their environmental record) agreed to perform on the North Sea floor at the foot of a leg of the enormous drilling platform.
The story of Katie and her band¹s rigorous safety training, and the realisation of the dream of the gas platform manager who conceived the whole crazy idea, is the subject of this fascinating film. Towards the end of the film we witness some of the concert itself.

Additional to the film of Katie’s undersea concert is a new interview describing the adventure, and containing previously unreleased footage of her on tour and from her daily life.

Hi, I’ve really enjoyed writing lately and catching up with my normal life. I was in Paris last week on Valentine’s Day… for work though! But we went to see the Moulin Rouge in the evening and although it’s quite a tourist trap I’d highly recommend it. It’s also been a very special week for Georgia, it is the first time in its history that Georgia has gone through to the Eurovision cong contest and although sometimes that show can be musically challenged, Georgia is really excited about it and I’ve been asked to hear the entry track. I have and have been brilliantly surprised at how good it is. So even though the show is a little naff I would urge all of you to watch it and vote for Georgia as I will be (sorry it’s the nationalistic in me coming out!).
In fact I heard that Mike used to have Eurovision song contest parties where he’d bring all his mates round and they would have their own scoring sheets - but the points were given for things like best hair do, best smile, strangest high note reached and the person you would be least ashamed to take home to your mum. So please vote for Georgia! Love Katie x
